Nazeing churchyard

The entire churchyard in Nazeing is looking better than it has for a very long time. The old Churchyard has been mown and cleared, brambles and thistles removed and old hedges trimmed and tidied. In the new churchyard last year difficulties with waist high grass are a thing of the past, mowing has been kept under control and paths cleared. All of this has been made possible with the tremendous help of the probation service with a team of community servers, volunteers.

The volunteers have done a tremendous job and they have enjoyed as much as everybody else the tremendous changes that we have seen and the improvement to the whole look of the churchyard. They have pleased to receive positive comments from people visiting the churchyard and the very hearty thanks of the worshiping congregation. The same group of people have also been tackling Church Cottage. A trench has been dug in front of the building and backfilled to prevent erosion.

This trench will allow to the cottage to breath as it was intended to by its original builders so many hundreds of years ago. This has meant there has been some disruption to the garden in the front of Church Cottage, but it is intended that it will be substantially paved and filled with native English wild flowers and provide pretty ornamental and authentic display appropriate to such a pretty and listed building.

The Cottage garden has also been improved a great deal of work has gone into trimming the hedges with great care watching out for birds nests, nettles have been left to encourage butterflies but at the same time the garden has been opened up. The old well has been rediscovered in all its glory.

We have also been fortunate to receive a few donations towards the upkeep of the churchyard in the last twelve months. These donations allow us to continue the good work that is going on.

Thank you to the probation service for the joyful way that they have gone about the work and the careful attention to detail. Thanks are also due to the wardens for their time and expertise in managing this work as it has moved forward. If you are one of the many many people that come up to Nazeing churchyard regularly I am sure that you will have already noticed the difference.

Spare a thought then to all to those who have done the work that have made the churchyard much more attractive this summer. If you are somebody who has never been to Nazeing Churchyard I encourage you to come up here and spend some time in the great beauty, peace and tranquillity of this oasis of greenery in this busy world.
